The latest confirmed development in ash assessment is that the docket has returned for review with the exceptions and unresolved objections attached. The update comes from the Upper Chamber of Measures; officials have not announced a permanent change to the rule.

Marda Thenn, keeper of the municipal fuel register, confirmed 68 hearth entries in the latest file. The previous count was 67. The figures do not yet resolve whether the city’s largest kilns should carry a larger share of the ash levy.

The unresolved point is specific: The levy is assessed by furnace capacity, while small workshops say capacity does not show how many hours a kiln actually runs. No finding has established that either account is final.

The current arrangement remains in place. The office has not said whether it will change before the next review.

NEXT UPDATE: The chamber’s committee must publish a revised rate table before the next firing season. The file will be updated when the second check is complete; until then, the confirmed record is narrower than the claims around it.
