The public account of the eastern hoist relies on the rope fiber samples and the hoist’s load-and-stop book. A review of that source and the field notes finds a specific limit: the count can be repeated, but it does not include a pale strand showing through the outer twist near the lower drum.
Dara Vek checked the rope fiber samples and the hoist’s load-and-stop book against the field notes. The method is to start at the shift handoff, where an official total can lose its context; it confirms the entries, but not every interpretation attached to them. The comparison covers 56 test lifts completed under load; 53 appear in the prior file. No signed correction to either entry was present when this review closed.
Dori Tharn, rope examiner for the east hoist, said the source register was complete for its stated purpose. The office has not provided a separate measure for when to retire the main rope without cutting the only heavy route to the lower workshops, so the public record cannot yet show which account is more representative.
The examiner has found no failed fibers; the crew argues that a rope can pass a bench test and still behave badly under a stop. The current record does not settle that disagreement. This report does not establish that either side misstated the evidence. It establishes that the published total is narrower than the conclusion being drawn from it.
A public vote has approved a narrow change while leaving the larger question open. The entry belongs to the field review file at the eastern hoist chamber above the deep cart line. The next trial will record a full stop with a stone load matched to the heaviest routine cart. The next file should preserve the original entries and explain any change in method.
